Banking on the potential of soybean processing, the Provincial S&T-Center- Ifugao has conducted various activities to develop this industry in the province. Likewise, an earlier training conducted by the PSTC on soybean processing has generated favorable output wherein some participants have ventured into soybean processing. It is also important to note that soya milk and other processed soybean products of local investors/entrepreneurs are accepted and appreciated in the province.

To further advance the initiative of DOST CAR in the industry, a joint project with the Department of Agriculture (DA)- Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) entitled, “S&T Intervention for the Development of the Soybean Processing Industry in Ifugao: A PhilMech and DOST-CAR Collaborative Project” shall be implemented.

The Memorandum of Agreement has just been signed between the two agencies, identifying the soybean processing hub to be established at the PSTC building, IFSU Campus, Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao. The project has a total project cost of PhP967,576.80 where DOST CAR, PhilMech, and the beneficiaries shall provide counterpart funds of P264,176.80, PhP510,400.00, and PhP193,000.00 respectively.

The general objective of the project is to develop the soybean processing industry in Ifugao through the establishment of a soybean processing technology hub in Ifugao. Appropriate equipment shall be made available in the hub to be used by MSMEs who want to venture into soybean processing. As Philmech’s commitment to the project, they shall provide the major processing equipment for the facility while DOST-CAR shall provide the other equipment and facilities. Further, the DOST-CAR shall spearhead training such as cGMP, product costing and packaging, and labeling shall be conducted as well as laboratory analyses and the conceptualization of label design. Meanwhile, part of the project is to come up with at least one (1) technology adaptor during the 1st year of the hub’s operation. //DOST- Ifugao
