With the limitations of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Science and Technology- Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) conducted its first virtual celebration of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) in CAR, synchronized to the virtual NSTW celebration in Manila themed, “Agham at Teknolohiya: Sandigan ng Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kaayusan, at Kinabukasan” from November 23-29, 2020.

The activity highlighted the contribution of DOST-CAR in achieving the government’s development goals for the region. This was done through a series of webinars and virtual exhibits in a hybrid modality where a limited number of participants with poor or no access to the internet were accommodated in the Provincial S&T Centers.

A total of 1,180 participants from the six (6) provinces in CAR, as well as from other regions benefitted from the free webinars during the weeklong NSTW in CAR. The participants were representatives from the academe, students, entrepreneurs/farmers, National Government Agencies (NGAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), teachers, and other stakeholders from the public and private sectors.

Meanwhile, a total of 36 programs and technologies of DOST were also showcased in the virtual exhibit. In keeping with the year’s theme, the virtual exhibit was clustered into the 4K’s namely, Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kaayusan, and Kinabukasan. The Kalusugan cluster showcased researches, activities, and other initiatives of the agency in addressing health and nutrition concerns while the Kabuhayan cluster staged the DOST-CAR’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) beneficiaries and the Community-based projects from the Six (6) provinces in CAR. Further, the Kaayusan cluster featured programs and technologies that support the enhancement of systems or processes used or applied by the public; and the Kinabukasan cluster staged programs and initiatives that support the enhancement of education and community empowerment in the region.

The DOST-CAR shall maintain the virtual exhibit even as the NSTW celebration has already come to a close. This shall serve as an additional advocacy to promote its programs and services. Everyone is invited to visit to explore and experience this exciting platform in the new normal.
