La Trinidad, Benguet— In celebration of Philippine Arbor Day and in support to the initiative to preserve the environment, DOST-CAR planted 110 seedlings (55 coffee and 55 guyabano) in its adopted site at the Communal Forest of Shilan today.
The tree-planting activity, which is part of the DOST-CAR’s Corporate Social Responsibility as well as its response to the National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), was conducted alongside officials and personnel from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of La Trinidad, Benguet, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station and community volunteer groups. Starting in 2019, DOST-CAR has regularly conducted tree planting, weeding and monitoring activities at the almost 1-hectare portion of the communal forest managed through the Adopt-a-Forest Program in coordination with the La Trinidad LGU, DENR-CAR, and the Barangay Council of Shilan.
Observed every June 25 (since its institutionalization in 2004 through Proclamation No. 643) throughout the nation, Arbor Day promotes a healthier ecosystem for the people through the rehabilitation and re-greening of the environment by planting trees and organizing related activities.//Christian Robert Sandoval
