Dhalia Carlit once dreamt of owning a big business firm like one of the popular and well- established firm in Lamut, Ifugao. Every time she passes by the firm, she looks up and gently whispers her wishes to the sky that someday, she too will be a proud owner of a successful business. During that time, Dhalia and her husband, Reynaldo Carlit was running a small bakeshop, Uncle Doods Bakeshop in a building mortgaged to them. Mr. Carlit is known as Uncle Doods in their neighborhood, hence the business name.

Since it’s a mortgaged space, the couple cannot expand their business, having to make do with whatever space is available for processing. This is one of the limitations hindering the couple to increase production and improve their product quality. However, Dhalia and Uncle Doods are very open to all possible opportunities in enhancing their business. The couple ensures that they are updated and because of Uncle Doods innovativeness, he is able to repair and remodel their equipment and facilities.

 

Soybean has been used as a major protein ingredient in the formulation of livestock and poultry feeds and as a raw material for the manufacturing of processed foods and food additives like soy sauce, tofu, soymilk, tokwa, and more because of its high nutritional value. Aside from these, it is also being processed into soy paste (miso), and soya milk, which is frequently used as a dairy substitute. 

 

Further, hydrolyzed vegetable protein is a meat substitute made from processed soybeans. Flour made from soybeans is used in numerous processed foods, as a stabilizer and to increase protein content. Soya oil is widely used in cooking as well as in cosmetic and industrial products, such as paints, printing inks, soaps, disinfectants, and linoleum. Soya oil is also increasingly used as a biofuel. The soya meal that remains after the oil is extracted is used to make fiber, textiles, and adhesives, or as livestock feed. Soybeans and whole plants are also widely used for animal fodder and pasture, hay, and silage, as well as grown as a cover crop (green manure). These are just a few among the nutritional and economic values of soybeans that it can offer to the community.

 

La Trinidad, Benguet - - The Department of Science and Technology- Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) Regional Office and its Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) in the six (6) provinces in the region will undergo renovation after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- CAR approved a total of PhP9,299,744.6 to fund labor and materials for the repair and rehabilitation.

The repair of the DOST-CAR Regional Office located at BSU Compound, Km. 6, La Trinidad, Benguet was funded with PhP1 million pesos and is expected to be completed in October 2020. Despite the ongoing repair, the DOST- CAR RO remains open for its customers.
